At the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) in Dec 2013, CoE staff member Dr Nima Gunness and former CoE PhD student Dr Anneline Padayachee were joint winners of the first NSA Award of Excellence in Nutrition and Dietary Fibre Research. The aim of the award is to recognise and encourage original nutrition and dietary fibre research by NSA members, and is assessed on both the potential contribution to nutrition and dietary fibre science, and the presentation style and clarity. Nima’s talk was entitled ‘Mechanisms behind effects of cereal soluble dietary fibres on blood lipids’, and Anneline’s was ‘Fibre interactions with polyphenols and implications for gut release’.
