On November 21st and 22nd Get into Genes hosted 200 Year 8 students from Urrbrae High School as part of their “Food Sustainability Challenge” tour.

They were hosted in 5 sessions for 1.5hrs in groups of 40 over the 2 days. The students were given a talk for 30 minutes followed by 1 hour of practicals. The practicals were a study of plasmolysis in red onion cells treated with salt solution to understand the effect of salinity on plants and the sticky fingers/fibre viscosity experiment where students identify if a solution from a grain extract contains high fibre or low fibre.
